SPECIAL EASTER EVENTS AT KELBURN
Events will run this year throughout the holiday period from 2nd April– 15th April. 12 – 4pm.
They will include: A Giant Egg Art Project, Egg painting and rolling, Egg hunt, Giant Bunnies, Egg ’n' Spoon Challenge, Easter quiz and lots more!
HERBALIST COURSES
Sunday 22 April, Sunday 17 June, Sunday 23 September, 2- 5pm.
Learn remedies and techniques from Bill Cleeve our local herbal expert. Booking and fee required. Call centre for further details.
BATTY BANK HOLIDAY AT KELBURN
5th-7th May 12 – 4pm
Build a bat box, play batty games and do batty arts and crafts. On Saturday 5th May there will be an evening bat walk at 8:30pm (meet outside ranger centre). Cost £2. Join our bat expert to learn about bats and explore the glen and pick up bat sounds on special detectors. This event is part of the Scottish National Heritage Outdoor Access Festival.
RUSTIC HIGHLAND GAMES
26th – 28th May 12– 4pm
Horse shoe throwing, rustic skittles, welly tossing, tug-o-war, haggis throwing, mini obstacle course, barrel rolling and other rustic games.
ENVIRONMENTAL ART FAMILY DAYS
30TH June–1st July 12 – 4pm
Use your imagination and Kelburn’s natural resources to create environmental sculptures, mosaics and designs. Make a small willow sculpture with expert guidance from a local basket maker.
FAIRYTALE, WOODLAND AND NATURE’S FOLKORE
7th - 8th July 12- 4pm
Join the Rangers for a woodland Puppet Show, be intrigued by folklore tales, hunt for the Phoenix’s Nest, find the Goblin’s hidden treasure, learn about Herbalism ,discover the secret world of Kelburn’s historic trees and bring along your Teddy to our Special Picnic!
SAVE THE PLANET WEEK
14th -20th July 12 – 4pm
Make re-cycled paper with the rangers, crush a can and find out how nature takes care of its rubbish. Meet Environmental Organisations and find out how you can help take care of the planet. Special discounts on admission for those visitors using public transport, contact Office for further details..
NATURE’S MUSIC
21st & 22nd July 12 – 4pm
Work with the rangers constructing musical instruments from nature’s music store then join Kelburn’s orchestra and create a Natural Symphony.
BUSH CRAFT WEEKEND
4th & 5th August 12 – 4pm
Could you survive in the wild? Join the rangers and discover techniques for survival in wild places .On Saturday 4th of August there will be a camp out on the moors above Kelburn where you will be able to put your new found skills to the test. Booking and fee required for further details please contact Centre Office. (Fee £4.50)
GREEN WOODWORK WEEKEND
11th & 12th August 12 – 4pm
Green woodwork, pole lathe and other rural craft demonstrations.
NEW ZEALAND WEEKEND
18th – 19th August -12 – 4pm

SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES
During the School Summer Holidays (2nd July – 17 August) the Ranger Service will be setting up a number of environmental Activity Workshops at Kelburn..

Activities will take place between 12noon and 4pm on weekdays only, and will be suitable for Children aged 8 years and over. Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult.

EVENING GLEN WALKS
Every Tuesday Evening the Ranger Service lead walks around the Kelburn Glen and surrounding countryside. Walks start at 7pm from the main car park and cost £1. Longer walks also take place once a month on a Thursday Evening. These walks are part of North Ayrshire’s “Ways to Walk” Health Walk Project.
